Rural Healthcare Developers – Ray Shoemaker

In terms of managing healthcare centers and helping to turn their performance around completely, there is one name that really stands out from the rest – that of Ray Shoemaker. Ray Shoemaker has successfully created and headed numerous departments within a variety of healthcare settings and, as a result, has won critical acclaim on a local and national level. Among the accolades he has received are the title of the Turnaround King from the Memphis Business Journal and recipient of the Up and Comers award from the Modern Healthcare magazine.

Leadership abilities that were first developed while rising to the rank of Captain in the United States army have served him well throughout his career. Not only did he develop the geri-psych unit of the Tri-Peaks Healthcare Center in Batesville, MS, but he also went on to add three other behavioral health wards before being promoted the Chief Operating Office and finally to the Chief Executive Office. During his time with the Tri-Peaks center he also increased turnover from $23m to $64m helping the center become a viable healthcare provider.

Helping centers become viable healthcare providers is what Ray Shoemaker is renowned for so it is perhaps not surprising that he has established the Rural Healthcare Developers company. This was founded in order to ensure that everybody, regardless of whether they live in a major city or not, can enjoy access to the best possible healthcare providers. Ray is also authoring a book on leadership and continues to offer his skills to centers and young healthcare leaders across the country through a program of healthcare leadership education.
